Bring on the weekend!
Why am I so excited that tonight is Friday and it is now officially the weekend? I don't even work (yet)! I guess it's because I know I don't have to job search tomorrow, or Sunday - whooo hoooo.
Our lovely little dishwasher is acting up - every time we turn it on, no matter what the setting -the cleaning cube doesn't dissolve - I don't think it is releasing properly. Luckily it is still under warranty - just! The warranty was 2 years, which runs out in June!
So, today I headed into the city for interviews - I took this photo out the window of the ferry I was on of another ferry - not such a bad way to travel!!
And really NOT a bad way to end a journey with this view!
The interviews went well. I had two agency interviews, and one of them sent me on an actual job interview later that afternoon (after a lovely lunch with Helen). They wanted me for the job, but I didn't really want the job.... and things always work out the way they are supposed to don't they? Turns out they are moving offices to WAY too far away for me in May.... the only reason I was even considering this job was because of the possibility of working my way up in the company - so um nope - that's out. BUT the other agent is going to get me an interview next week. I don't want to talk about it & jinx anything, but it's great & I want it! Also I got another call this afternoon about a job I also would really like. SO hopefully something will happen soon - fingers crossed - FINALLY some jobs I am actually interested in! Maybe it really is true what all the agents have been telling me 'nothing happens in Sydney in December & January.' Whatever works - it is Feb now - so time to work!
Oh - and I got ahold of that agent who set up my 'non' call yesterday - he apologized a ton and said he would call the guy today and lock him down to a time range to call me next week.... we shall see!
I was so happy to get to the terminal and sit down and read while waiting for the 4pm ferry - what a long day (well, it felt like it anyhow - walking all around the city and telling four people how wonderful I am was exhausting!)
Tonight we went to see Gran Torino - WOW what a great movie! Only bad thing about the movies in the mall near us? No prices!!! When you go up to buy pop & popcorn - they have NO prices listed, at all. We had to ask the guy to go through any deals, prices, etc - gosh what a pain! Turns out they only do pop & popcorn deals when they relate to movie specials - so we decided on this Australia tin that was filled with popcorn - it was bizarre to walk out of a movie with a tin!
Now - bring on the weekend! They say tomorrow is due to be the hottest day yet - 33 here at the coast (around 96) and 42 inland Sydney (108f). Thank goodness we have the ocean breeze here! :)

The 12 Hour Waiting Game
I had a GREAT phone interview yesterday, the agent LOVED me! I think I have got much better at this whole 'selling myself' gig and talked myself and my experience up like crazy! SO he set up a phone call for me today with the Big Wig - the guy who is hiring for a fantastic job that I would LOVE! It is a bit above what I have done before, but I know I could do it.
The agent guy called me back last night to apologize and to tell me that he was really sorry - that the big wig DOES want to talk to me the tomorrow (now, today), but he couldn't set down a time because he is so busy - was that ok with me?
Well, did I really want to sit around all day and wait for that call? NO
But was the job worth that waiting around for the call? YES
So I got up early and job searched and emailed and waited, repeat - about 100 times.
It is now 7pm, and still no call. Twelve hours later.
I am not happy. I had things I wanted to do today. The sun was shining and I felt like I was in prison here. I didn't even want to walk out to the postbox in case the big wig called as I was walking down then I'd have to run back to get my notes and talk in a quiet environment.
The thing is, the big wig's head office is in Perth - which is 2 hours earlier than us here in Sydney. So really, it is only 5pm there. I give it one more hour, then I am having a glass of wine darn it. That is the reason we were going to have an initial phone interview, because he isn't in Sydney at the moment - then he'd decide whether he wanted to interview me in person.
I am just very frustrated *sigh*
I will give the agent a call tomorrow morning and nicely tell him the big wig never called, and hopefully they will collectively feel guilty and just offer me the job (it's possible, right?)
Or maybe the guy will actually BE in Sydney soon so he can interview me in person....
But anyhow, I have to keep looking, can't put all of my eggs in one basket
So I have two interviews in the city tomorrow morning for temp jobs - one would be GREAT so I am hoping it goes well (it is as close to what I do for an admin job as you can get, and in a department where perhaps I would be able to move up when I was done with my temp position to the role I actually do.....)
Gosh it is frustrating job searching - I wanna go to the beach!
(I think that will be my goal tomorrow afternoon! Sun & sand & waves - I'm totally yearning for that right now after a really concentrated job searching week (now that we have internet at home we each sit on our own laptop and search nearly all day long - sounds fun huh?)

Driving etc
So I drove for the second time on Sunday - just home from the grocery store down the road. This involves me maneuvering through two roundabouts. I admit - I find them kind of scary. Can I go? Will he stop? Is this the right lane? Blinker right, now blinker left, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
But, I did fine (other than stressing Murray as he kept saying LEFT LANE LEFT LANE LEFT LANE as a reminder)
The thing I keep doing wrong? Every time I go to turn on the blinker I stick out my left hand and move the bar to turn it on - and the windshield wipers go on! I keep forgetting that the blinker bar is on my RIGHT - such an ingrained thing from driving so long I guess.
Today between job searches I took some time to salivate over this site that Steve sent me http://www.usafoods.com.au
yummmm - too bad they are in Melbourne, or I'd go and visit to check out their stock!
Last night we went to a screening of the movie Pride & Glory in the city (thanks for the tickets Helen). It was a very good movie, but also it was fun for us to finally go into the city NOT suited up in work clothes and completely overheating. So lovely to travel home on the ferry as well - such a nice way to travel!

I was reading a Women's Health magazine yesterday and it was talking about what to eat in your 20's, 30's, 40's etc. They were talking about how you have to eat a lot of calcium rich foods in your 20's because 'once you hit 30 you are pretty much stuck with what you've got.' Oh NO - must go drink a gallon of milk right now then, since I only have a month to go! Sad:(

Lovely sunny hot weekend
Friday night Murray jumped out of bed and ran to the balcony when we heard a crashing sound
Turns out it was this curious possum! He is called a 'common ringtail possum'
At first we thought he was a giant rat - eeeek! He is about the size of a small cat, cute
Saturday night, after having a nice relaxing swim at Manly beach, we came home to make some yummy quiche with all the fresh eggs we got from Pam & Jeff (they raise chickens)
The finished product - with lots of cheese - yummmm
Helen & I loved Murray's creation - it was fab, we enjoyed it while watching the movie The Italian Job on our new big tv - a very nice evening:)
Yesterday we hit the road with our Scottish friends. We drove up to the Northern Beaches and went kayaking at Narrabeen Lakes and then went to Whale Beach for a picnic, swim & sun - such a nice day!
