MasterChef - Manly Style

Last Sunday Murray & Helen cooked a MasterChef meal (the big reality show here at the moment is a cooking show called MasterChef).

Murray took on a massive challenge - to make the MasterChef Beef Wellington
First step - crepes

They turned out beautifully

The jus in making (check out those beef bones - ewww)

Now time for the first fancy wrap - wrapping the fillet steak with the mushroom herb mix on the fancy prosciutto

Then on to the crepes!

Cook baby cook!

meanwhile we had Helen's lovely stuffed pepper starter

DONE!

How gorgeous does THAT look?????

Perfect on the inside too (it's meant to be cooked to medium rare)

Plated and served - holy cow it was FANTASTIC!!! The meat was melt in your mouth buttery!

And Helen's fancy chocolate cake with coffee mascarpone - yummmm

Anna & Ali

Saturday we went out with Anna & Ali to celebrate their upcoming wedding
They are getting married in Italy soon (they leave next week!!!), and since we can't be there it was FABULOUS to be able to celebrate with them here in Oz :)

Murray liked the cool wallpaper in the restaurant too!

Anna (Anna's friend) brought this lovely cake for them - yummy and pretty!

Ahhhhh - so cute:)

Gorgeous details on the cake

The cut.

Murray also liked this unique photo on the restaurant wall

Where we had lunch (cool reflection through the window). WOW the food was amazing - we had a LONG leisurely chatty lunch, it was just wonderful.

The Girls: Me, Anna & Anna

The girls & Ali

The lovely couple

Ahhhhh soon to be Mr & Mrs - how exciting :)

The four of us (and Sparky!)

And one last feel of the bump:) Sparky was moving around for them after all that GORGEOUS food!

It was SUCH a nice afternoon. Great to be able to celebrate with fantastic friends. We wish them ALL the best in their life together and a wonderful Italian wedding day and honeymoon (can't WAIT to see the pictures!!!)

39 Weeks

*How far along?: 39 Weeks

*Total weight gain: 15.3 kilos which is about 34 pounds

*How big is baby?: Sparky is the size of a watermelon (Week 3 of Month 9)
Baby's brain is still developing rapidly, and his skin has taken on a paler shade thanks to a thicker layer of fat around the blood vessels. (Don't worry; he'll change color again soon after birth.) He's now able to flex his limbs, and his nails might extend past his fingertips.

*Maternity clothes?: Ahhh it's nice to be off work and just wear comfy clothing every day:)

*Sleep?: Getting more and more uncomfortable as the bump is just SO heavy! A full pillow wedged for support does seem to help though. Weird dreams have come back in just the last day or 2 as well - weird.....

*Best moment this week? It was a very nice week, I got a lot of my 'to do' list done, and got to caught up with two friends and their cute kids.

*Movement?: Yup - still lots of movement every day. This is a good sign, especially now as we near the end, as it means everything should be ok in there.

*Food cravings?: Hmmmm I still need a little chocolate each day, but no cravings in particular really. I did indulge in a few Chai latte's this week though - lovely!

*Labor signs?: Nothing yet...... trying to go on long walks each day and adding lots of spice to my meals. Hopefully something will happen soon - I'm ready now (well, as ready as I'm gonna be)!

*Belly button in or out?: Fairly flat still - but SO stretched!

*What I miss: Nothing really - well, maybe looking down and seeing my feet:) But I don't mind not being able to properly reach them - great excuse for a pedicure!!

*What I'm looking forward to: My doctor's appointment this week - hoping to find out if there's any progress yet!

*Milestone: Well, I finally 100% finished packing my hospital bags - and they are in the car ready to go. Exciting.

*Feelings this week:

* Thanks for the guesses everyone - will be fun to see who guesses the closest in the end!

1 Week Til Due Date!!

Today is officially 1 week until Sparky is due - WOW!

Apparently there is a full moon on Saturday..... perhaps this will encourage him to come meet us soon? We shall see...... :)

I'm happy with my ebay purchase last night though (always so exciting to WIN!!!). I got this cute mirror so if I'm driving on my own I can see Sparky in his carseat (case it is rear facing) - cute huh?

38 Weeks

*How far along?: 38 Weeks

*Total weight gain: 14.9 kilos which is about 33 pounds

*How big is baby?: Sparky is the size of a watermelon (Week 2 of Month 9)
The last bits of vernix caseosa (the white goo keeping the baby's skin moist) and lanugo (downy hair) are slowly shedding into your amniotic fluid. Baby's head is about the same circumference as her abdomen, and her head could be covered in an inch or so of hair.

*Maternity clothes?: I have now officially entered the 'only sweatpants are comfortable' stage. I went and bought another pair yesterday so I have 2 I can alternate and oh they are nice! I can't wear my tights & comfy skirt every day - so YAY for comfy trousers. My maternity jeans & work trousers have officially been retired now - way too too tight!!

*Sleep?: Still good most nights. I guess I'm lucky that I only have to get up once in the night. Sparky is getting so big/heavy now that he totally shifts in the bump to whatever side I sleep on, looks totally bizarre when I get up to have a side bump!

*Best moment this week? Finishing up work!! They gave me a lovely sendoff with TONS of lovely food, a nice speech from my boss thanking me for my work and hoping I will come back (I will, next year), and they gave me lots of gorgeous pressies for sparky!! Such a lovely surprise. And now I feel very lucky that I will have a year to spend with Sparky :) But until he/she arrives - my to do list and afternoon naps are on the agenda!

*Movement?: Very regular still. At this point I'm supposed to be making sure Sparky moves at least 10 times a day, or call the hospital. But that has never been a problem, he moves that much just in the morning - and at least 2-3 times more during the day he wiggles around for awhile. Makes me feel relieved every day that all is well in there:)

*Food cravings?: Nothing in particular. I still like a little piece of chocolate every day, but my appetite isn't quite as crazy as it has been in the past few weeks.

*Labor signs?: Nothing yet

*Belly button in or out?: Starting to bulge a bit now - nooooooooooooo - I'm so close!

*What I miss: Smoked salmon, sushi & brie :) Starting to think about things I can have soon - not that I missed them a ton while pregnant, but still looking forward to having a bit!

*What I'm looking forward to: My doctor's appointment this week - hoping to find out if there's any progress yet! (although I'd like at least another week before Sparky arrives please!)

*Milestone: Going onto maternity leave. SO bizarre, as I was 'leaving' but not 'quitting' - just the weirdest feeling. I'm now on my second day at home and I still feel like I need to call in sick or something! I am glad to be home though, last week was exhausting, by early afternoon I really do need to at least just lie down. My friends dvds are getting a good workout!

*Feelings this week:
** On my first day of maternity leave I got the car seat 'capsule' installed

Weird looking isn't it? It's meant to be THE safest thing for a baby up to 6 months though:)

Driving home with an empty car seat made it all feel SOOOOOOOOOO real - oh my gosh - there will be a baby in there soon!!!!

Also we finished the nursery this weekend - whoooo hooooo!!! The final piece was the photos Murray took that we had framed - the fox, the deer & the squirrel.

All clothing is now washed & ready to go too - very exiting.

I bought pink & blue changing pad covers and have left instructions for Murray on how to wash the correct one for Sparky while I'm in the hospital - the color we don't need will be returned (thus why they are still new in their wrapping).

K-Bear taking it easy on my super duper comfy glider. Also we are happy with the touch lamp we found for the table!!

* Thanks for the guesses everyone - will be fun to see who guesses the closest in the end!

Crock Pot Off

A few weeks back Murray and I purchased a slow cooker, or 'Crock Pot'.....not long after came the predictable wave of Crock Fever (cue Bee Gees music as background soundtrack). This infection transmitted itself to our friends Matt and Steph, who, over a few wines, agreed to Murray's 'inspired' suggestion to set a date for a Crock pot challenge! The contract was drawn up, the signatures were scribbled....the legend began.

There was just one thing we didn't think through.....the competition required TWO full meals for judging...needless to say we rolled out of our chairs......

The night started with Matt's 30th Bday wine from Steph....an Italian red Barolo.

Session 1 - Matt and Steph's German Spread. 24 hr cooked Pork with Cabbage and apple crisps! YUM!! Sooo tasty!

mmm the oven roasted potato chat's with just a 'touch' of olive oil ;-)

Apple Crisps - So tasty!

The tasty yet 'treacherous' buttered cabbage side. Not a 'first date' side ;-)

Slow Cooker MasterPork!

Session 2 - Our Lamb and Gorgonzola Scone topped dish!

With Carrot ....chunks ;-)

Zoom in on 'The Scone'.......

Dessert time....Brownies.......

...and Steph's home made Profiteroles!!! Look at that rich chocolate sauce!

This went with our brownies....Home Opened and lovingly Hand Lifted ice cream lid. Our master stroke of brilliance. ;-)

A tie in the end - and 4 VERY full people. Next time - one meal per evening!
