Week 37

Photo shoot in Manly :)
Up overlooking Manly Beach as the sun sets.

*How far along?: 37 Weeks

*Total weight gain: 13.9 kilos which is about 30.5 pounds

*How big is baby?: Sparky is the size of a watermelon (Week 1 of Month 9)
Today brings two beautiful words: full-term. Now, whenever baby's born, he's likely to thrive. Baby is gaining about 1/2 ounce a day and getting his first sticky poo (called meconium) ready. He's also brushing up on skills for the outside world: blinking, sucking, inhaling, exhaling, and gripping (it's getting strong!).

*Maternity clothes?: Ah yes, I have started wearing my belly bands again as well - so that I don't have a strip of stomach showing between trousers & shirt!

*Sleep?: Still fairly good, but I can't sleep in anymore. My back gets sore from the weight after 8-9 hours of laying down, and it seems Sparky has started shifting right to the front in my sleep - that must be why my back gets sore! Sparky wakes up at about 6ish and I can feel him moving around - getting me used to early mornings I guess:)

*Best moment this week? My doctor telling me Sparky is in a great position, nice down low! Also hitting 'full term' is VERY exciting - so nice to know that more than likely Sparky would do fine being born any time from now!

*Movement?: Still quite a lot - he acutally has shifted back to my right side now (where he has been hanging out for months & months). For some reason last week he moved to the left - but he's definitely back now. It was weird to feel kicks on my right side for a week!

*Food cravings?: Just as of this week I feel like if you let me loose in a chocolate store I would eat myself sick! I'm just LOVING chocolate - have to have at least a little piece every day. Still loving fruits too - bananas, oranges & apples!

*Labor signs?: Too soon for that!

*Belly button in or out?: very much a flattie still

*What I miss: Hmmm nothing really - all is well :) I am looking forward to having some sushi & brie though!

*What I'm looking forward to: FOUR MORE DAYS OF WORK!!!

*Milestone: Moving into month 9 - wow wow wow - I can't quite believe it!

*Feelings this week:
** Definitely getting more emotional now. Sad commercials, songs on the radio, even just going to the maternity floor at the hospital this week for an appointment had me tearing up. I'm excited, I can't wait to see Sparky, and of course I'm a bit nervous about all the unknowns. But I feel ready - as ready as I can be I guess

* Thanks for the guesses everyone - will be fun to see who guesses the closest in the end!

  4. Murray is such a gifted photographer, but in fairness, look at the model he was given! Murray, how did you do that silhouette? You could publish that on the cover of a magazine, just like all your wildlife & floral shots. This would be a perfect cover for the progression of "welcome to the world, Baby Wood" collection of photos that are soon coming!
I will be praying, be sure to post when labor begins :)

  5. Dear Monique,
I agree with the comments about the spectacular photos of our beautiful daughter and grandchild. Well, let's see under things you miss (on the blog)- how about sleep? Plus, it certainly is no surprise that you are getting weepy as sentimental moments rush over you like a river; you are a chip off the old blocks. Let's face it, both Dad and I can cry over coffee commercials at this stage of the game. : ) Love you. Only a few days left until you are off of work for maternity leave. Full-term...ahhh those words are precious!!
    Love, Mom
